The famous bassplayer Chuck Israels (who is widely known through his participation in the legendary piano trio of Bill Evans and countless other Jazz greats) comes to the Netherlands to perform in a limited number of concerts with guitarplayer Axel Hagen. Chuck and Axel met during two productions with the Dutch “Metropole Orchestra” ca 10 years ago and developed a musical and personal friendship which led to a number of projects since 2007. They recorded a CD for Bluejackjazzrecords, toured twice in a quartet combination in the North of Italy in 2009/10 (Vicenza Jazz in may 2010) and played concerts in the Netherlands with Bert Joris a.o.For this small number of concerts at the end of august 2011, they chose to play in Trio with the well knwon Dutch piano great Rob van Kreeveld. They will play some jazz standards and originals,the majority of which is arranged by Chuck Israels who has build an impressive reputation as an arranger since the 1970 ties next to his instrumental skills as a bass player. Chuck's arrangements are always very detailed and exciting, with a focus an rhythm and dynamic development.The special qualities of interaction and improvisation of all three musicians are able to unfold wonderfully in this intimate “Trio without drums” through Chuck's writing and the great experience of the players. De beroemde jazzbassist Chuck Israels (met name bekend door zijn samenwerking met Bill Evans en talloze andere grote jazzmusici) kommt voor een klein aantal concerten met gitarist Axel Hagen naar Nederland. Chuck en Axel hebben elkaar ontmoet tijdens twee producties met het Metropole Orkest ca tien jaar geleden en hebben sindsdien een zowel persoonlijke als muzikale vriendschap opgebouwt, die in verschillende projecten sinds 2007 zijn weerslag vond. Zij namen o.a. voor Bluejackjazzrecords een CD op, spelden enkele concerten in Nederland met o.a. Bert Joris op trompet en tourden meermals in Italie in het najaar van 2009 en voorjaar van 2010. Voor deze kleine concertreeks in Nederland (eind augustus 2011) hebben zij voor een trio met piano grootmeester Rob van Kreeveld gekozen. Het Repertoire zal bestaan uit eigen komposities en bewerkingen van Jazzstandards. Chuck Israels heeft sinds de Jaren zeventig een enorme reputatie als arrangeur opgebouwt. Zijn arrangementen zijn altijd zeer gedetaileerd en boeiend en staan dus ook in deze samenwerking central. De bijzondere kwaliteiten van de musici en de initeme bezetting van dit “Trio zonder drums “ komen hierdoor volop tot zijn recht.
